November 2019

Our November meeting was hosted by NatWest.

"Fall in love with your customers problem - not your solution to it" a lesson that a lot of business owners we are lucky enough to work with would share with their younger selves.

NatWest Business has a knowledgeable and dedicated team of externally accredited relationship managers who provide a full portfolio of products and services to SMEs. We support business owners by using our experience and networks to help them to achieve their personal and business goals. NatWest is more than just a provider of financial services and is committed to supporting entrepreneurs and communities across the U.K.

Our Business Growth Enablers are at the heart of our Boost programme. They can:
  • Boost your insight and knowledge in specialist subjects by giving you access to local talks and educational events
  • Boost your connections with opportunities and partnerships. These could be within our group or through a variety of other businesses we work with - they could help you on the road to success
  • Boost your skills through training and mentoring with 1:1 sessions

Guest Speaker
Mark Huxley Managing Risks while building a business.

Mark brings over 40 years of working within the insurance community and more latterly in the wider financial services sector has provided him with many adventures.
These began with Mark working within the globally iconic Lloyd's insurance market managing claims across all classes of non-marine (re)insurance, where he handled some eye wateringly large matters!
His first foray into business ownership was founding one of the UK's pioneering outsourced claims management companies in the 1990s. Building it from scratch to scale and with a well-earned reputation as a business builder he went on to found a full service specialist marketing and consultancy agency working within the insurance and financial services sectors. This too grew to become sector leading and spawned many new businesses, including content marketing, PR and primary research.
Having divested his interests in them in 2017 he has more recently harnessed the skills and experiences acquired from his long working life and launched consultancies to directly help businesses and the people within them maximise their capabilities. This is delivered via a blend of personal mentoring and wider business advisory/consultancy, helping them to grow while managing their risks.
He is as a Freeman of the Guild of Entrepreneurs and serves upon numerous committees and Special Interest Groups, often as Chair giving back and delivering value to the financial services sector.

Angela Hobbs - CarriMe Health The Menopause conversation is changing phenomenally. Menopause creates challenges for women, affecting health, behaviour, anxiety, relationships and careers. For males the issue of Andropause or Hypogonadism is less widely discussed. But it exists. Our research began in 2016 with a focus on understanding the landscape, the opportunity to help solve a real problem and achieve commercial success.
Hormones are chemical messengers that travel through the body to help the cells perform their many tasks. They influence our immune system, our energy, our mood, how well we sleep, our sex drive, our appetite and digestion, the strength of our muscles, the health of our bones and many other aspects of our health and lives.
CarriMe is the first in a range of products to support people dealing with hormonal impacts on their well-being, health, relationships, careers and the way we live our lives.
CarriMe will provide vital support for employers to ensure senior talent retention and is aligned with government strategy for agile ageing.
The menopause has been gaining a lot more awareness and publicity in recent years. For example, in a new video for her brand, Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that she's experiencing symptoms of perimenopause, a precursor to menopause.
I have named this product after a friend of mine who I believe could have been helped by this app and a % of the profits will go to the hospice in Clapham that cared for her.

Mark Templeman -
Imperium Risk
"Operational risk is an ever increasing concern for financial services business executives particularly with new regulations such as SM&CR (placing more personal accountability on executives). Operational incidents and fines are still extremely high having huge financial and reputational impact. Additionally, the regulatory capital requirements are extremely high and increasing compared to market and credit risk requirements. Finally the process to measure operational risk is highly inefficient and costly.
Current approaches are almost entirely focused on data capture at the micro level. Very few have worked out a method to organise and aggregate operational risk data. Risk professionals spend 80% of their time collating dated information and preparing bureaucratic reports rather than actually analysing and designing solutions to reduce risk.
Imperium platform is a SaaS platform built by highly experienced practitioners using the latest best in class technologies to automate structuring data and displaying key data points. The flexibility of the platform provides fast implementation tailored to an organisations needs at a competitive price point compared to other vendors and in house technology delivery.
The Imperium platform enhances risk insight and creates cost saving opportunities. Imperium is the first solution in the operational risk world that will change the capability of Risk functions as SalesForce has done in the Sales world."
